“Research related to interpersonal perceptions points clearly to the idea that the stronger our preconceived notion about a particular person or group,the more likely it is that we will SEE what our preconceptions have prepared us to see rather than what is actually there. Naturally,this makes it seem as if there is a high degree of consistency in the perceived person's behaviour. For example, if you perceive a particular person as basically untrust worthy,there's little he or she can do that will not be seen in that light. Which is why,by the way, it is so difficult to regain another person's trust once it is lost.”
