About Philip Larkin
He later wrote two novels, Jill in 1946 and A Girl in Winter in 1947. His second poetry collection, The Less Deceived, came out in 1955 and brought him fame, followed by The Whitsun Weddings in 1964 and High Windows in 1974. From 1961 to 1971 he was the Daily Telegraph’s jazz critic, and he edited The Oxford Book of Twentieth Century English Verse in 1973. He received the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry and declined the Poet Laureate position in 1984.
