About Hunter S. Thompson
Hunter S. Thompson was an American journalist and author who helped start New Journalism alongside writers such as Gay Talese and Tom Wolfe. He spent a year living with the Hells Angels motorcycle club to write the 1967 book Hell’s Angels. In 1970 he published a vivid article about the Kentucky Derby that boosted his reputation as a countercultural figure, and he later coined the term Gonzo to describe a style where the writer participates directly in the story.
