About Denis Johnson

He also wrote the novel Tree of Smoke, which won the 2007 National Book Award for Fiction, and was twice a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Over his career he published nine novels, one novella, two short‑story books, three poetry collections, two play collections and a book of reportage. His last work, The Largesse of the Sea Maiden, was released after his death in 2018. A biography titled Flagrant, Self‑Destructive Gestures appeared in 2025.
