““The Jacobin Club got its name in a roundabout way. Originally a group of Bretons who came to Versailles to attend the States-General met together in a cafe for discussion. Deputies from other parts soon joined them and when the Assembly moved to Paris some of these rented a room in a Dominican monastery. The Dominican monks were nicknamed Jacobins--hence the Jacobin Club. The leaders of the Jacobins were Danton and Robespierre, the two names that above all others spell for us French Revolution.””
