About Wislawa Szymborska
Maria Wisława Anna Szymborska, a Polish poet, essayist and translator, received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996. She was born in the town of Prowent and spent much of her life living in Kraków. Her collections sold as well as many well‑known prose writers in Poland. In one of her poems, “Some Like Poetry,” she humorously suggested that only about two out of a thousand people truly enjoy poetry.
