About Joanne Harris
Joanne Michèle Sylvie Harris, born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, to a French mother and a British father, worked as a French teacher for fifteen years. During that time she published three novels before her 1999 book Chocolat became a bestseller and was made into a movie, allowing her to write full‑time. She has since authored more than thirty works, ranging from fantasy and psychological thrillers to novellas, short stories and non‑fiction. Her stories often highlight women's empowerment, folklore, motherhood, community, outsiders and food.
