About St. Catherine of Siena
Caterina di Jacopo di Benincasa, known as Catherine of Siena, was an Italian Catholic mystic and diplomat. Through extensive letter‑writing she took part in papal and Italian political matters. She was canonized in 1461, becoming a saint and later a Doctor of the Church because of her theological works. Her writings also helped shape Italian literature.
