About Oscar Wilde
Oscar Fingal O'Fflahertie Wills Wilde was an Irish author, poet and playwright. In the 1880s he wrote in many styles, and by the early 1890s he became one of London’s most popular dramatists. He was a leading figure in the Aestheticism movement and is often called the greatest Victorian playwright. Wilde is best known for his novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, his witty epigrams and his children’s bedtime stories. In 1895 he was convicted of gross indecency for practicing homosexual acts.
