About Henry Adams
Henry Brooks Adams was an American historian from the famous Adams family, descended from two U.S. presidents. After graduating from Harvard, he worked as secretary to his father, Charles Francis Adams, who served as Abraham Lincoln’s ambassador to the United Kingdom. The experience exposed him to wartime diplomacy, English culture and the writings of John Stuart Mill. Later he became a political journalist who hosted America’s leading intellectuals at his homes in Washington and Boston.
