About Anne Sexton
Anne Sexton was an American poet known for her confessional, highly personal verses. Her 1967 book Live or Die earned the Pulitzer Prize for poetry. Her poems often explored her own experiences with mental illness, including bipolar disorder and suicidal thoughts, and mixed fairy‑tale, mythic and religious images with autobiographical material. Her work remains widely read and studied for its emotional intensity and influence on modern American poetry. After her death a daughter reported alleged abuse in later biographies.
