About Plato
Plato was an ancient Greek philosopher active in Classical Athens. He is generally regarded as the thinker at the root of the Western philosophical tradition, and his influence reached across every major branch of both theoretical and practical philosophy.
He pioneered the philosophical dialogue and the dialectic method as literary and intellectual forms. In Athens he established the Academy, a school of philosophy where he taught the body of ideas that later came to be called Platonism.
His dialogues include The Republic, Symposium, Phaedo, Apology, Timaeus, Gorgias, Phaedrus, and Laws, among many others.
