James Albon Mattox was an American lawyer and politician who served in the United States House of Representatives from 1977 to 1983 and as the attorney general of Texas from 1983 to 1991. He lost high-profile races for governor in 1990, the U.S. Senate in 1994, and again as attorney general in 1998. He was a member of the Democratic Party.
