About Jane Austen
Jane Austen (1775–1817) was an English novelist. Her reputation rests chiefly on six novels: Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, Persuasion, Mansfield Park, and Northanger Abbey.
Through these books, Austen turned a perceptive eye on the world of the English landed gentry as the 18th century drew to a close, weaving interpretation, commentary, and quiet criticism of that society into her fiction.
