About Jack Kirby
Kirby grew up in New York City, learning to draw by tracing cartoon figures from comic strips and editorial cartoons. He entered the comics field in the 1930s, using pen names such as Jack Curtiss before adopting Jack Kirby. In 1940 he and writer‑editor Joe Simon created Captain America for Timely Comics, the predecessor of Marvel. Throughout the 1940s he continued collaborating with Simon, producing many characters for both Timely and National Comics, which later became DC.
