About Herodotus
Herodotus, born in the Greek city of Halicarnassus when it was under Persian control in the 5th century BC, was a historian and geographer. He later became a citizen of Thurii in what is now Calabria, Italy. He authored the Histories, which records the Greco‑Persian Wars and other topics such as the rise of the Achaemenid dynasty of Cyrus. The Roman orator Cicero called him “The Father of History.”
