About Confucius
Confucius, whose birth name was Kong Qiu, was a philosopher of China's Spring and Autumn period. Tradition regards him as the model Chinese sage, and much of the cultural heritage shared across the Sinosphere traces back to his thought and instruction. He worked as a teacher in the state of Lu and was married to Qiguan Shi.
The body of teaching that bears his name, Confucianism, stressed morality in both private conduct and government. It placed particular weight on harmonious social relationships, righteousness, kindness, and sincerity, and held that a ruler's duty is to lead through virtue. He is associated with the Analects and with the Lun Yu.
