About Bible
The Bible is not a single book but a gathered collection of religious writings. It stands at the heart of Christianity and Judaism and is also held in esteem within other Abrahamic faiths, including Islam. Which texts count as scripture differs from one tradition to another; the set a given community accepts is known as its biblical canon.
The Hebrew Bible was composed in Hebrew, while the New Testament — the second part of the Christian Bible — was written in Koine Greek. Across its pages readers encounter many kinds of writing: instruction, narrative, poetry, letters, and prophecy. Believers broadly regard the collection as divinely inspired, though understandings of what inspiration means, and how the text should be read, differ widely.
