About William Carlos Williams
William Carlos Williams practiced medicine while writing poetry that focused on everyday life. He was part of the modernist and imagist movements. His well‑known poems include "This Is Just to Say" and "The Red Wheelbarrow." He wrote the five‑volume poem Paterson about Paterson, New Jersey between 1946 and 1958. His work inspired visual artists, such as Charles Demuth’s painting I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold. In 1962 he received a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for Pictures from Brueghel and Other Poems.
