Born Madeleine Sophie Wickham, she writes under the pen name Sophie Kinsella. The first two books of her Shopaholic series, The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic (2000) and Shopaholic Abroad (2001), were combined for the 2009 film Confessions of a Shopaholic.
