About Roger Ebert
Roger Joseph Ebert worked as a film critic, historian, essayist, screenwriter, journalist and author. He wrote reviews for the Chicago Sun‑Times from 1967 until his death in 2013, using a clear, Midwestern style that aimed to be entertaining and direct. Ebert highlighted foreign and independent movies and praised directors such as Werner Herzog, Errol Morris, Spike Lee and Martin Scorsese. In 1975 he became the first critic to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism, and many colleagues called him one of America’s most influential reviewers.
