About Patti Smith
Patti Smith is an American singer, songwriter, poet and author who rose to prominence in the 1970s New York City punk rock scene. Her 1975 debut album Horses helped her become an influential figure in that movement, and she often blends rock music with poetry. Her 1978 song “Because the Night”, co‑written with Bruce Springsteen, reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number five on the UK Singles Chart.
