About Michel de Montaigne
Michel Eyquem, Seigneur de Montaigne, commonly called Michel de Montaigne, was a French writer of the Renaissance. He helped make the essay a popular literary form, blending casual anecdotes and personal autobiography with thoughtful insight. His collection of essays, the Essais, influenced many later Western authors and includes some of the most influential essays ever written.
