About Marcus Tullius Cicero
Cicero wrote many treatises on rhetoric, philosophy and politics, and he is celebrated as one of Rome’s greatest orators and prose stylists. He helped develop what is called “Ciceronian rhetoric.” Educated in Rome and Greece, he came from a wealthy municipal family of the equestrian order. During the Republic’s crises, he tried to uphold optimate principles before the empire emerged.
