About Joseph Campbell
Joseph Campbell was an American writer and the husband of dancer Jean Erdman. He taught literature at Sarah Lawrence College and specialized in comparative mythology and religion, exploring many aspects of the human condition. His best‑known book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces (1949), presents the idea of a common archetypal hero story found in world mythologies, which he called the monomyth.
