About Joseph Addison
Joseph Addison was a British writer and politician, the eldest son of Lancelot Addison. He co‑founded The Spectator magazine with his friend Richard Steele and wrote the 1712 tragedy Cato. His clear and simple prose helped move writing away from the ornate style and classical images that were common in the 17th century, and his name is often mentioned together with Steele’s.
