About Fannie Lou Hamer
Fannie Lou Hamer was an American activist who worked for voting rights, women’s rights, and civil‑rights causes. She served as vice‑chair of the Freedom Democratic Party and represented it at the 1964 Democratic National Convention. Hamer helped organize Mississippi’s Freedom Summer together with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and she co‑founded the National Women’s Political Caucus to support women of all races seeking elected office.
