About Bertolt Brecht
During the Weimar Republic he was influenced by Marxist ideas. In Berlin he teamed with Elisabeth Hauptmann and composer Kurt Weill to create The Threepenny Opera. He also wrote didactic pieces called Lehrstücke and became an important thinker about epic theatre and the technique called Verfremdungseffekt, which aims to remind audiences they are watching a play.
