PSALM 56:3–4 SEPTEMBER 10 Life tends to frighten people, for it can be pretty ferocious sometimes, pretty mean. But while fear is pervasive, a Christian, if really a Christian, shouldn’t ever be frightened of anything. (I speak now of abnormal fear, not of normal caution.) If a person is truly living a Christian life, he should not be afraid of anything except God. And when we speak of having “the fear of God,” we really mean living with great respect for God. In Psalm 56, there is a passage that reads, “Even when I am afraid, I keep on trusting you.” If you really believe this and really have it in your heart, you have a power against all difficulty. Life is just packed full of great, big difficulties, and sometimes you say to yourself, “Circumstances are too big for me. I can’t handle them. I haven’t got what it takes.” Oh, yes, you have. There is no difficulty in this world that you can’t handle. This I firmly believe, and this faith is justified by experience with many people.””
