In fact, dread tightened his chest at the thought of what life would be like after tomorrow. If only he could find a way to be with her even though this project of theirs was coming to an end. With his pastoral experience, surely he’d be given a larger congregation with a salary that would allow him to offer Christine a comfortable life.
