““I believe there are many who can sympathize with dear old Jacob. They have had to pass through trials very similar to his. Well cross-bearers! God says, “I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” You poor tried souls; you are not consumed because of the unchanging nature of your God. Now do not sigh and say, with the self-conceit of misery, “I am a person who has seen affliction.” Why, “the Man of sorrows” was afflicted more than you; Jesus had more sorrow than you. You do not come even close to his affliction. You never have trials like his. You do not understand what trouble means. You have hardly sipped the cup of trouble, you have only had a drop or two, but Jesus drank the cup dry. God says, “Fear not,” because “I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob are not consumed.””
