““In 1952 when Batista seized power and anointed himself as the President of Cuba for a second time, Castro along with many others, branded him a dictator and started to campaign against him. On June 7, 1952, the Cuban Workers League newspaper Alerta carried an article written by Castro directly attacking Batista, but by June 16th the newspaper was shut down by the régime… so much for freedom of the press. Castro initiated legal action against Batista, but realizing that his efforts were ineffective he began to plot other ways to overthrow the Batista administration.””
