About Winston Churchill
Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (1874-1965) was a British statesman, military officer, and author. He led the United Kingdom as Prime Minister through the Second World War, holding the office from 1940 to 1945, and returned for a second term from 1951 to 1955.
Churchill's parliamentary career was remarkably long: he sat as an MP for roughly 62 of the years between 1900 and 1964, representing five different constituencies in total. Politically he embraced economic liberalism and imperialism. Though he belonged to the Liberal Party between 1904 and 1924, he spent most of his career with the Conservatives, serving as that party's leader from 1940 to 1955.
