About Sallust
Sallust, whose full name was Gaius Sallustius Crispus, was a Roman historian and politician from a plebeian family, likely born in Amiternum among the Sabines. He became a supporter of Julius Caesar around the 50s BC. He is the earliest known Roman historian who wrote in Latin and whose works survive, including the Conspiracy of Catiline, The Jugurthine War, and the Histories. His writing was heavily influenced by the Greek historian Thucydides. While governing Africa he accumulated a large fortune, some of which was considered ill‑gotten.
