About Michelangelo
Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, known simply as Michelangelo, was an Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet of the High Renaissance. Born in the Republic of Florence, he spent most of his career in Rome from his thirties onward. His work drew on classical antiquity and shaped Western art for centuries. Contemporary biographers called him the most accomplished artist of his era, and he is one of the best‑documented 16th‑century creators. He is often paired with Leonardo da Vinci as a leading Renaissance figure.
