About Kenneth M. Stampp

Kenneth Milton Stampp was an historian of slavery, the American Civil War, and Reconstruction. He taught at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1946 to 1983, ending his career there as the Alexander F. and May T. Morrison Professor of History Emeritus. He was also a visiting professor at Harvard University and Colgate University, Commonwealth Lecturer at the University of London, Fulbright Lecturer at LMU Munich, and held the Harmsworth Chair at Oxford University.
