About George R. R. Martin
George Raymond Richard Martin, often referred to simply as GRRM, is an American author who also works as a screenwriter and television producer. Born on September 20, 1948, he is most celebrated for A Song of Ice and Fire, an epic fantasy novel series that HBO turned into the Emmy-winning show Game of Thrones (2011–2019) and its prequel, House of the Dragon.
Martin's connected novellas, the Tales of Dunk and Egg, have likewise reached the screen through HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Beyond that universe, he helped launch the Wild Cards anthology series and supplied worldbuilding for the 2022 video game Elden Ring. He is also known for Dying of the Light, The Armageddon Rag, and the collection A Song for Lya and Other Stories.
Across his career Martin has collected some twenty honors, among them Hugo, Nebula, Locus, and World Fantasy awards.
