About August Strindberg
He also wrote poetry, essays and painted, and his work covered autobiography, history and politics. Strindberg experimented with naturalistic tragedy, monodrama, historical drama and early ideas that later became expressionist and surrealist theatre. His 1879 novel The Red Room is often called the first modern Swedish novel. In Sweden he is remembered as an essayist, poet, painter and playwright, while many other countries know him mainly for his plays.
