Pope Benedict XVI stresses that the Church’s purpose is the person of Jesus Christ, not a political cause or a social agenda. He says the Church must protect life, seeing it as a gift, and that its strength comes from Christ’s blood rather than power. He also warns that selfishness and fear can distort law and morality.
