As I prepared to publish this book, a white supremacist…
““As I prepared to publish this book, a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia took place. One woman, Heather Heyer, was killed protesting the hate spewed by the organizers of the rally, while several more were injured. Writing about a family dealing with its ancestors’ involvement with the KKK was at times uncomfortable. I was very concerned with getting the tone right for all readers, and I hope I’ve done so.
