About Maurice Sendak

Sendak was born to Polish‑Jewish parents, and many family members died in the Holocaust, which affected his early life. He illustrated his own stories and also worked on books by other writers, such as the Little Bear series by Else Holmelund Minarik. In addition to his books, he designed opera sets, most notably for Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
