Freeman John Dyson was a British‑American theoretical physicist and mathematician whose research spanned quantum field theory, astrophysics, random matrices, the mathematical formulation of quantum mechanics, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics and engineering. He served as professor emeritus at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and was a member of the board of sponsors for the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.
