Euripides questions a world where modesty and virtue are hidden behind blasphemy, and justice is forgotten. He shows how stepchildren can feel hated, how old age can bring wisdom, and how a hero may be loyal to friends but ruthless to foes. About Euripides

He is counted among the three classic tragedians—Aeschylus and Sophocles—whose works are fully extant. Ancient scholars once credited him with up to ninety‑five plays, though the Suda limits the number to at most ninety‑two. Nineteen of his plays survive in near‑complete form, while many fragments remain from the others. His popularity grew during the Hellenistic Age, and his works became a staple of ancient literary education alongside Homer, Demosthenes and Menander.
