About Charles Krauthammer

He began as a moderate liberal but later became an independent conservative pundit. His weekly column was printed in more than 400 newspapers worldwide. While studying at Harvard Medical School, a diving board accident left him permanently paralyzed from the waist down. After 14 months in the hospital he returned to school, helped write the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders III in 1980, worked as director of psychiatric research for the Carter administration in 1978, and served as speechwriter for Vice President Walter Mondale in 1980.
