About Bill Ayers

Ayers, who had worked as a community organizer, helped start the Weather Underground in 1969. The group aimed to overthrow the United States government, which it saw as imperialist, and it bombed public buildings to protest the Vietnam War. Three members died when a device exploded by accident. The FBI labeled the organization a domestic terrorist group. After the bombings, Ayers was pursued as a fugitive for several years, but the charges against him were later dismissed because FBI agents had broken the law while investigating him.
